Gandhinagar train station is now the first station in Rajasthan with all women station staff ranging from ticket collector to station master. Even you can find women in the inquiry counter and acting as pointsman.
As per Soumya Mathur, the divisional railway manager, Jaipur, “The entire activity on the railway station will be managed by women that include operations which basically mean operating the panel where you align the tracks according to the route of the trains. Then there are commercial operations like selling of tickets and ticket collection.”
Further, he stated that “the third major function is security,” adds Ms. Mathur, “so we will have lady constables patrolling the platforms.”
It is important to note that Gandhinagar railway station is basically the second railway station after the Matunga station in Mumbai to be “manned” completely by women. It is yet another important step in showing the increasing role of women in almost all sectors.
In order to offer support to the crew members, RPF or Railway Protection Force has taken an initiative to post as many as 11 women police personnel. This is going to avoid any kind of inconvenience.
